R.D.R Nevara, author and illustrator of Love and Other Disappointments
Boundless creativity has been a life-long love affair for R.D.R. Nevara. Exploring traditional and non-traditional art forms, her enduring favorites are writing, drawing and Flamenco dance, and in these she indulges her great passion and soulful surrender.
Nevara’s self-illustrated book of poetry, Love and Other Disappointments, is her first foray into sharing her innermost emotional strata with others, amply revealing a fearless self-expression. Her poetry is intensely personal, fiercely honest and tongue-in-cheek, pulling you in and playing with you. One minute you think that you know where you are going, and then, breathtakingly, you are spun in an entirely unexpected direction. Dark edgy humor is used to celebrate the entire gamut of turbulent, raw emotions. Her poetry is lusty and embraces the universal experiences of change and growth, death and rebirth, love, wonder, compassion, sorrow, pain, joy and gratitude.
Nevara, an educator for many years, has taught, traveled and studied in the bohemian manner of a true “Urban Gypsy”. Her love of travel inspired jumping into other cultures, exploring lifestyles and cultures with abandon and confidence, often influencing her writing and art in unexpected ways. Like a feathered serpent who bites her tail, Nevara has returned to her native northern Arizona roots where she currently lives with her lucky dog Luna.
